LED Light Therapy

LED Light Therapy is a non-invasive facial and body treatment to treat many skin conditions:

  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Reduce lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce pore size
  • Helps sun-damaged skin
  • Reduces melanin production, which causes brown age spots
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Dermatitis
  • Sensitive skin
  • Inflammatory conditions
  • Wound healing
  • Scarring

LED (Light Emitting Diode) exposes your skin to ultraviolet light and uses various coloured wavelengths to penetrate different depths of the skin which then speeds up your body’s natural response into healing itself faster. The skin uses the light as a source of energy to fuel the repair and rejuvenation of damaged cells, or, in the case of treating acne, kill bacteria. The energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, boosts circulation and accelerates tissue repair. LED Light was originally developed by NASA for plant growth experiments on shuttle missions and then later discovered that it has profound effect on wound healing treatments.

LED Light Therapy use different light colours for light energy, each having a different function:

  1. Red Light – speeds up healing and stimulates the production of collagen whilst shrinking enlarged pores and tightening the skin. Collagen is an essential protein used to repair damaged tissue and to replace old tissue. Best for fine lines, and will also help to reduce large pores.
  2. Blue Light – makes the oil glands less active which leads to fewer acne breakouts. It also kills acne causing bacteria beneath the skin, which can help treat severe acne pimples, including cysts and nodules and promote anti-inflammatory effects. Blue light is an effective treatment for blackheads and whiteheads.
  3. Purple Light – often Red and Blue lights are used in combination to help fight acne. Typically, the Blue light targets the acne and the red light target the inflammation and redness.
  4. White light – this penetrates the deeper into the skin helping to accelerate the metabolism of the active tissue, break down stains /colour spots, improve the appearance of fine lines and reduce sagging skin.

LED Light Therapy is a simple process. The Therapist will carry out a consultation prior to the treatment to address concerns you may have and run through what is involved in the treatment.

  • Before a treatment, all make-up, oils, sunscreens and other skin products must be removed. Ideally you should do this prior to coming into the clinic.
  • The LED Light will then be placed on the area to be treated for 15 – 30 minutes depending on the concern being treated.
  • During the treatment, you will lie back and relax.
  • Once the treatment is complete, you can return to your normal activities as there is no downtime.

LED Light Therapy, when used over a period of time, penetrates your skin at different depths and causes various reactions in your skin, such as fighting acne-causing bacteria and reducing wrinkles.

It triggers compromised skin cells that are unable to renew themselves normally. Skin uses the light energy on the damaged skin cells to repair and rejuvenate and kill bacteria.

Yes in many cases. LED Light Therapy will not cure the skin condition but will treat it. Research indicates that this LED Light Therapy offers promising results, although people should not expect a 100% improvement.

Treatments take 15 to 30 minutes per session. You may need 10 or more treatments depending on the condition being treated.   You will need to come in every week one week apart. Then only once every few months.

You may need at least four treatments before you start see the results.   At Beautilase, we recommend once a week treatments over 10 weeks (possibly more).
